Fixed circulars have the cable permanently attached, which makes them a lovely, reliable choice for knitting in the round, whether that's a hat, a pair of socks, a cowl or the body of a jumper. They work just as well for flat knitting too, and the weight of a larger project rests in the cable rather than on your wrists, so a blanket or a shawl feels far more manageable on your lap. The one thing to keep in mind is length, as a shorter cable suits smaller projects like hats and sleeves, while a longer one gives a jumper body or a blanket room to spread out.
