Stranded colourwork can feel like a lot to plan out on paper, which motif goes where, whether it will sit well against the next one, before you have even cast on. The Doodle Knitting Card Deck takes all 200 charts from Jamie Lomax’s bestselling Doodle Knit Directory and puts them on individual cards instead, so you can shuffle, lay them out and build your own design by eye.

Each card shows the motif chart on one side and a photo of the knitted swatch on the other, so you can see how a motif actually looks worked up before deciding if it earns a place in your project. A short booklet is included with tips on using the cards together, plus a simple stranded colourwork cowl pattern to get you started.

How it is structured

All 200 charts are printed one to a card, chart on the front, swatch photo on the back. The accompanying 16 page booklet covers how to use and combine the cards, along with a beginner friendly cowl pattern that puts the method into practice. From there, it is a case of shuffling the deck, picking out the motifs you are drawn to, and combining them for hats, cowls, mittens, sweaters, socks or whatever you are knitting next.

What is inside

200 stranded colourwork motif cards, each with a chart on one side and a swatch photo on the other. A 16 page booklet with guidance on combining motifs. A simple stranded colourwork cowl pattern to practise the method.

Perfect For

Knitters who enjoy stranded colourwork but find planning a design on paper slow going, and anyone who already owns the Doodle Knit Directory and wants the charts in a more hands on, shuffle and arrange format. It also suits knitters building their first colourwork project, since the cowl pattern and swatch photos make it easy to start small.

A deck that turns planning a colourwork design into something you can lay out on the table and actually see, rather than something you have to picture in your head.
