Interlocking crochet builds two layers of mesh at the same time and locks them together as you go, one colour at a time, so there are no floats or carried yarns to manage and the fabric comes out properly reversible. Some stitch patterns give you a mirrored design on both sides, others show something different on the reverse, and the whole technique is built from nothing more than double crochet and chains, the complexity comes from how they are arranged rather than anything unfamiliar.

Written by Ana-Maria Babanica, a Romanian designer who has crocheted since 2008 and founded the Crochet Highway brand in 2021, the book brings a geometric, art deco influenced eye to a technique she clearly finds genuinely exciting to share. It is built to work as both a pattern collection and a proper handbook, with each design tested by other crocheters before publication.

How it is structured

The book opens with how to use it, terminology, tools and materials, a dedicated chapter on what interlocking crochet actually is, how to read the patterns, a practice swatch, a border tutorial and a section on common mistakes, so you are genuinely set up before reaching the patterns themselves. From there it moves into a library of 50 reversible stitch patterns, illustrated with over 700 photos, before closing with five full projects that put the techniques into practice.

What is inside

50 reversible stitch patterns, each with step by step instructions and photos. Five projects: the Tesserae Vest, Granny Mirage Top, Steppingstone Chevron Shawl, Tote-ally Tiled Tote and Colour Clash Cushions. A dedicated explanation of the interlocking technique, a practice swatch, a border tutorial, and a common mistakes section. A US to UK terms conversion chart.

Perfect For

Crocheters who already have double crochet and chains down and want to put them to genuinely different use, and anyone drawn to geometric, art deco style designs that look as good from the back as the front. It also suits anyone who likes to properly understand a technique before diving into the patterns, since the educational chapters come first.

Please Note

This book is written in US crochet terms. It does include a UK conversion chart, so it is still very usable, just worth knowing before you start.

A book for crocheters ready to look at two stitches they already know and discover there was a whole technique hiding inside them.
